DANVILLE, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team travelled to Danville for a non-conference match with Averett on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars won by the score of 9-0.
In doubles play, the pair of Colby Cook (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) and Bhuvan Ambekallu (Karnataka, India/Bethany High) took one game in their match with Lasse Bonn and Maksim Sukhomlinov at second doubles. Nicolas Alvarado (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Olimpo and Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Park/Severna Park) lost 8-0 at first doubles.
Alvarado went three sets with Jorge Figueroa at first singles. Figueroa won the first set easily 6-0 while Alvarado recovered to edge out Figueroa 7-6 in the second set. The super tiebreaker set was another close outcome with Figueroa winning 10-8.
Second singles saw Ambekallu lose out to Josh Bottrell 7-6 in the first set and then fall 6-4 in the second set. Kulvivat fell 7-5, 6-1 to Sukhomlinov at third singles. Cook and Ramiro Chavez-Montoya (Roseland, Va./Nelson County) both lost in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to their opponents.
Randolph hosts Pfeiffer next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
