Men’s Tennis Drops 5-4 Decision to UVA-Wise

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team started its 2021 season on Sunday afternoon as they host Division II UVA-Wise. The WildCats had some impressive results but lost a close decision to the Cavaliers 5-4.

The WildCats won at first doubles to begin the match. Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Nico Alvorado (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Olimpo) were able to pull out an 8-7 win over the pair of Jake Ferner and Dominic Hoffman. Colby Cook (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) and Bhuvan Ambekallu (Karnataka, India/Bethany High) dropped 8-5 to Luke Jarnagin and Coleton Burke.

Alvardo won at first singles 6-0, 3-1 with Ferner retiring. Ambekallu defeated Hoffman 6-3, 6-1. Kulvivat was a winner at third singles 6-1, 6-4.

Randolph will play at Averett next Saturday. Start time for the match is 2:00 p.m.
