WildCats Fall to Phoenix in Exhibition

Jordan Phillips-McLoyd scored 22 points for the WildCats

ELON, N.C.- The Randolph men's basketball team faced Division I Elon on Friday night at the Schar Center. The game was an exhibition for Randolph. The Phoenix would defeat the WildCats 107-62.

Elon came out shooting in the first half and led by as much as 18 points, 35-17, with 8:20 remaining in the period. The WildCats went on a 17-6 run to slice their deficit to seven points, 41-34, with 2:34 showing on the game clock. Elon would recover as it closed out the half on an 8-2 run to lead 49-36 at the break.

The Phoenix would outscore the WildCats 58-26 in the second half to break the game open.

"Great experience tonight for our program in many ways," said head coach Pete Hamilton. "I hope we can learn a lot from the game. Our emphasis going in was to force Elon to score over our activity. They certainly made us pay for giving them some comfort early. They were in an impressive rhythm tonight - 20 made threes is not something you see every night. Those guys are well coached and do a great job getting to their strengths."

Jordan Phillips-McLoyd (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) was on fire for Randolph as he scored 20 points in the first half going 7-of-10 from the field. He was 4-of-6 from behind the three-point arc. Overall, he finished with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting.

CJ Loving (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) added 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting and pulled down six rebounds.

The WildCats return to play on Wednesday as they host Mary Baldwin in their home opener. Game time is at 7:30 pm following the women's game.

"Looking forward to shifting the focus back to non-conference and our home opener next week!" said Hamilton. "Will need to have a few productive days on the court and in film to be where we want to be Wednesday night."
