Kulvivat Advances to Championship at ITA Regionals

FREDERICKSBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team competed at the ITA Southeast Regionals on Friday. The matches were hosted by Mary Washington.

Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) played at B8 singles. He won his quarterfinals match against Kier Nacua from St. Mary's 7-5, 6-1. Kulvivat then faced Matthew Gordon from Bridgewater in the semifinals, Despite dropping the first set, he went on to win in a super tiebreaker 5-7, 7-5, 10-5. Kulvivat now will go up against Omosesan Adebamge from Goucher tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in the championship.

Nicolas Alvarado (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Olimpo) faced Alec Strause from Christopher Newport in the Championship Singles bracket. Alvarado lost 6-0, 6-2.

Alvarado and Kulvivat teamed up at Championship Doubles. They went up against Paul Baron and Theodor Risebrobaken from CNU. They would go down 8-1.

In B2 doubles, Bhuvan Ambekallu (Karnataka, India/Bethany High) and Yoshi Breyer lost a close match to the pair of Niko Bifsas and JJ Bonta 8-6. Colby Cook (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) and Jose Merhej (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) fell to John Kendrick and Taylor Fox from Hampden-Sydney 8-0.

Alvarado will face Karsten Laggerquist from Grove City in the Championship Consolation tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. He and Kulvivat play Brewen and Vigdochuk from Lynchburg in the Championship doubles consolation at 8:45 a.m.

In the B2 doubles consolation, Ambekallu and Breyer face Bauer and Breyer from Lebanon Valley at 8:00 am tomorrow. Cook and Merhej play Miller and Kaufman from Grove City also at 8:00 am.
