GREENSBORO, N.C.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team traveled to North Carolina to face Greensboro in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon. The Pride would go on to win 16-5.
The WildCats had an early lead in the first quarter. Sean Landis (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) assisted Jake Helsley (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) on the first goal at the 7:01 mark. Six minutes later, the WildCats had an extra-man opportunity and took advantage as Helsley assisted Matthew Piascik (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) on his goal. Greensboro got on the board with 32 seconds remaining but Randolph still led 2-1.
GC evened the game up at 2-2 a little over two and a half minutes into the second quarter. The WildCats responded with a Tyler Johnson (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) solo shot at 10:36 to give the lead back to Randolph. Greensboro tied and then took the lead with a 5-0 run and went up 7-3 at halftime.
It was all Greensboro in the second half as the home team pulled further ahead with an 8-0 run that stretched into the fourth quarter. Randolph scored twice in the fourth on goals by Jacob Ernst (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and Johnson.
Johnson finished with two goals on the day. Evan Pausic (Saluda, Va./Christchurch) and James Greenfield (Woodbridge, Va./Hilton) both picked up four groundballs.
Corey Boswell (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) played 45 minutes between the pipes and came away with 11 saves. William Doyle (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate) played one quarter and stopped three shots.
Randolph hosts Bethany College this coming Monday at WildCat Stadium. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
