Late Lead Slips from WildCats as Eagles win 85-80

LYNCHBURG, Va.- Randolph held a 14-point lead late in the second half but visiting Bridgewater came back to stun the WildCats as it won 85-80 on Wednesday night at the RAD Center. The Eagles' record improves to 8-15 overall and 4-10 in the ODAC while the 'Cats drop to 7-16 and 3-11 in the conference.

The WildCats had an early six point lead, 11-5, with 17:22 showing on the game clock in the first half. BC used a 12-3 run to take over and go ahead 17-13 at 12:44. The Eagle lead grew no more than five points as Randolph stayed within arm's length. The Eagles went into halftime ahead 41-39.

The WildCats regained the lead on CJ Loving's (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) three-point basket to begin the second half. The one-point advantage was short lived as Bridgewater pulled out ahead with an 11-4 run to go up 52-46 at 17:11.

Randolph's 9-2 run put the home team on top 58-54 at 12:47. The Eagles closed to within one as Chandler Murray sank a three-pointer at 11:12. The WildCats then went on a 13-0 run for their biggest lead of the night, 71-57, with 8:10 to play in the game.

As quick as the 'Cats got ahead, the Eagles did almost the same as they would cut the WildCat lead down to four points, 71-67, with 5:52 remaining in regulation. Randolph took a 10-point lead, 77-67, with 4:22 left. The tide then turned in Bridgewater's favor as they went on an 18-3 run to end the game and go out in front for the win.

The two teams were nearly identical in field goal percentage. Randolph was 27-of-59 (45.8%) while Bridgewater was 29-of-63 (46%). The WildCats did have an advantage in the rebound battle 39-37.

The Eagles led in points off turnovers 26-22, second chance points 14-6, and bench points 22-13. Randolph had an advantage in points in the paint 34-30.

Four WildCat starters reached double figures led by Loving's18 points. His 4-of-7 performance behind the three-point arc was a season-best. He also grabbed seven rebounds. Justin Dula (Taylorsville, N.C./Alexander Central) recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Brian Smith (Dumfries, Va./C.D. Hylton) added 15 points. Jerry Goodman (Suffolk, Va./Portsmouth Christian School) chipped in 10 points.

Randolph returns to the RAD for final time in the regular season next Wednesday when it hosts Ferrum. Game time will be at 5:00 pm.
