LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team returned to action following the Thanksgiving break to host #12 Randolph-Macon on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets were too much for the WildCats as they won 81-40.
Randolph-Macon stays undefeated as it moves to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Randolph drops to 2-4 overall and are 0-1 in the ODAC.
The WildCats started quickly out of the gate as they got out to a 12-4 lead. R-MC roared back and used a 13-0 run to wrestle the lead away from the 'Cats and took a 17-12 lead with 11:03 showing on the clock. A CJ Loving (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) jumper shot cut the lead to three but the Yellow Jackets used a 10-2 run to go up 27-16 with 7:11 remaining in the half.
Randolph got to within eight points at 29-21 with 5:08 left until the break. Randolph-Macon, however, outscored the WildCats 14-6 to take a 43-27 lead at halftime.
It was all Randolph-Macon in the second half as the Yellow Jackets outscored the 'Cats 38-21. The Yellow Jackets shot 64.3% (18-of-28) in the first half and were 54.1% (33-of-61) overall on the evening. The WildCats shot 31.7% overall (19-of-60).
Zach Hinton (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) led the WildCats with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Justin Dula (Taylorsville, N.C./Alexander Central) added nine points, four rebounds, and two assists. Loving chipped in seven points. Brian Smith (Dumfries, Va./C.D. Hylton) had a line of five points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Randolph will look to regroup when it travels to Lexington on Wednesday for an ODAC battle with Washington and Lee. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
