Men's Basketball Falls in Cross-Town Tilt At Lynchburg

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Junior Gordon Rogo scored 21 points off of the bench, but Randolph couldn't overcome a Lynchburg first half run in a 76-57 loss.

In a battle of two teams ranked in the top 10 nationally in defense, tonight's contest started with the teams' centers battling for position inside, with both junior Lucas Smith and his counterpart Alex Graves hitting two layups each.

Rogo's and-one shortly thereafter gave Randolph a lead and junior Zach Desgain hit two free throws ahead of a three by junior Corey Brown, once again putting Randolph back up.

Randolph went 5:09 without a field goal, however, giving Lynchburg a chance to make a 12-0 run, taking the lead it would never relinquish.

The WildCats closed to within three, but a 7-0 run to close the half put the Hornets up 10 at intermission.

Randolph made plenty of runs in the second half, but couldn't close the gap to a single possession, as the Hornets iced the game late with eight straight points.

Rogo finished with 21 points and five rebounds on 9-of-15 shooting. Junior Corey Brown had 14 points and a team-high six rebounds.

Both teams were bolstered by a tremendous turnout at Turner Gymnasium, as a strong showing from both teams' fan bases made the short trip to the ODAC opener.

Randolph falls to 0-1 in ODAC play, but will have a chance to even its record on Saturday at Shenandoah.
