Men's Basketball Travels to Nationally-Ranked Marlins

Box Score

NORFOLK, Va. -- No. 15 Virginia Wesleyan hosts Randolph on Saturday at 2 p.m.

About at the WildCats:

Randolph has the nation's top defense and is sixth in field goal percentage defense in the NCAA.

WildCat fans likely don't have any fingernails left after a series of incredibly nerve-racking games so far this season.

Eight of Randolph's 12 contests this year have been single possession affairs in the final minute.

On Wednesday, Randolph earned a 63-62 in a frantic finish to move to 2-1 in ODAC play.

Senior Dylan Shiflett (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) is tops in the ODAC in field goal percentage.

About the Marlins:

After starting 7-0, VWC reached No. 6 in the nation. The team has lost three of the last five however, falling to ODAC foe Bridgewater last time out.

Virginia Wesleyan has had its share of close games as well, playing in four overtimes in three games over the last five contests.

DJ Woodmore is second in the league in scoring and three point percentage. Colby Heard is third in field goal percentage. Sedric Nady is third in assists.

About the matchup:

VWC has won 10 of the 11 all-time matchups between these two teams.

In 2011, Randolph earned a 80-76 victory in the ODAC semifinal for its lone win against the Marlins.

Last year, the Marlins defeated the WildCats in two close competitions. The first contest, in Norfolk, ended Randolph's record-setting 13-0 start. The second came in the ODAC semifinal.

WildCat to watch:

Sophomore Seth Wimbish (Fairdale, W.V./Liberty) leads the ODAC in three point percentage, hitting on half of his 30 attempts from long range.

After averaging 8.2 minutes over the first five games of the season, he has seen a significant increase in playing time, and now average more than double that.

He has hit on multiple threes in three straight games as well.
