Box Score ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph College men's basketball team could not overcome a season-low 28.9 percent shooting performance from the floor as the WildCats dropped their regular season finale to Randolph-Macon College 70-52 Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play from Crenshaw Gymnasium.
Randolph (20-5/11-5 ODAC) still finishes the regular season with its best overall and conference records in program history, and also has earned a bye in the ODAC Tournament which starts this week. The WildCats couldn't get their shots to fall all game, making just 13 field goals on the afternoon.
The WildCats led 17-13 midway through the first half, but Randolph-Macon (16-9/11-5 ODAC) went on a 10-2 run to take a four-point lead at 23-19. The WildCats made only one field goal over the last nine minutes of the half, trailing 31-24 at the break.
After intermission, Randolph still couldn't find the touch as the Yellow Jackets pulled away for the win. Senior Chris Battaglia (Smithfield, VA/Portsmouth) had 11 points on the afternoon, making all six of his free throws. First-year Corey Brown (Williamsburg, VA/Walsingham) had 11 points off the bench for Randolph, and fellow first-year Evan Horn (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) chalked up 10 points as well.
ODAC leading scorer Colton Hunt (Whittier, NC/Smoky Mountain) could not get much going on Saturday, as he was limited to his lowest output of the season at six points. Randolph did make 22 of its 33 free attempts, but was also out-rebounded 33-28.
Randolph-Macon had only one player in double figures on Saturday, as Andre Simon had 13 points and seven boards. Lamar Giggetts and Akeem Holmes each had nine points for the Jackets, while Marcus Badget, Connor Sullivan, Dylan Cole and Joe Hassell all had eight points apiece in the win. R-MC shot 45 percent (26-50) from the floor Saturday.
The WildCats will have to wait and see who they will play Friday evening, as the ODAC office will release pairings and bracket information Saturday evening. For more information, log onto www.odaconline.com or www.randolphwildcats.com for tournament updates.
