Men's Basketball Falls After Methodist Hits Last-Second Free Throws

Box Score

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Two Methodist shots from the charity stripe handed Randolph its first loss of 2013-14.

Randolph fell in a back-and-forth battle today, 54-53, after Desmond Parker was fouled with 5.9 seconds left on the clock, hitting both free throws to take the lead.

Sophomore Evan Horn (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) missed a shot at the buzzer, giving Randolph (2-1) a non-conference defeat.

Methodist (2-4) took an eight point lead into intermission and grew the edge to as much as nine before Randolph made its run.

After trailing for 17 straight minutes, a 6-0 run from Horn and seniors Dylan Shiflett (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) and Mike Ehilegbu (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) put the teams level at 44 apiece.

The teams traded points, then Horn hit a three with 3:09 left to put Randolph up 53-52.

Neither team scored for the next three minutes, but a foul under the basket left Methodist with two free throws, sealing the victory.

Horn led all scorers with 15 points, with Shifflett close behind with 12. Shifflett had the game high in rebounds, nine.

Randolph has a week off until returning to action next Wednesday, hosting Bridgewater.
