Box Score HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Hampden-Sydney College forward Harrison George netted a game-high 23 points as the Tigers handed the Randolph College men's basketball team a 75-53 loss in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play from Fleet Gymnasium Wednesday evening.
Turnovers were the problem for Randolph, as the WildCats (5-3/2-1 ODAC) gave the ball away 24 times as opposed to only the 13 by the Tigers. Hampden-Sydney also hit eight three-pointers along the way, which hurt since Randolph nailed only three-of-17 (17.6 percent) from downtown.
Randolph took an early lead at 5-2 following a lay-up from junior Dylan Shiflett (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry). With the score 8-7 in favor of the visiting WildCats, H-SC went on a 9-0 run to go up by eight. Randolph fought back to regain the lead at 17-16 after a jumper from sophomore Mike Ehilegbu (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft).
The Tigers came right back with another run, this time scoring 10 of the next 11 points of the game to open up an eight- point advantage, eventually taking an 11-point lead into halftime at 38-27. Randolph got to within nine early in the second half, but the hosts slowly built their lead up to as much as 24 late in the game, eventually winning by 22.
Randolph was paced by the 11 points from both Ehilegbu and Colton Hunt (Whittier, NC/Smoky Mountain), as both had three rebounds as well. Hunt was held to only five shots from the floor. Shiflett hit all four of his attempts for nine points, and Cam Colquitt (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee) had four points and a game-high six rebounds.
George hit on 10-of-14 shots from the floor to earn his 23 points, and Sasha Obradovic had 11 points, knocking down three-of-five from downtown. Hampden-Sydney shot 30-of-62 from the field (48.4 percent) and held a slight edge on the boards, 30-28.
Randolph will return to the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center for its next contest, hosting Shenandoah University Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in non-conference play.
