Randolph Men Breeze by Christendom College 86-35 Friday

FRONT ROYAL, VA — The Randolph College men's basketball team scored 30 of the game's first 32 points and never looked back in a non-conference victory over Christendom College Friday evening from Crusaders Gym.

The Crusaders scored the contest's first bucket, but the WildCats (1-2) would rattle off a 30-0 run over the next 16 minutes. The Randolph defense held Christendom to only 15.4 percent shooting in the first stanza, while making 17 of its 28 shots (60.7 percent) from the floor. Sophomore Mike Ehilegbu (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) scored all of his game-high 17 points in the first half for Randolph.

The WildCats would increase their lead to as much as 57 midway through the second half in rolling to the non-league win. Ehilegbu was six-of-eight from the floor including knocking down all three of his shots from distance. Senior Derrick Woods-Morrow (Greensboro, NC/NE Guilford) had 12 points, eight boards, three steals and two blocks.

Senior Julius Thomas (Chesapeake, VA/Stonebridge) scored 10 points, junior Dylan Shiflett (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) had eight points and seven rebounds, and Colton Hunt (Whittier, NC/Smoky Mountain) returned to action with nine points and four steals. Junior post Chris Battaglia (Portsmouth, VA/Portsmouth) had eight points in nine minutes, including a thunderous two-handed dunk in transition on a Crusader defender. 

All but two Randolph players scored in the victory, as the WildCats shot 57.4 percent from the field including hitting on seven-of-12 (58.3 percent) from behind the arc. Randolph also won the rebounding battle 45-23 over Christendom. Tim McPhee had 13 points to pace the Crusaders, who took a loss against the WildCats for the fifth straight season.

Randolph will battle Ferrum College November 17 in Ferrum, VA at 2 p.m. in more non-conference action.
