Randolph Athletics Holds Annual Awards Ceremony

The Randolph Athletics Department held its annual awards ceremony on Tuesday evening in Smith Theater to recognize and honor its student-athletes.

The Female Athlete of the Year was Alanna Jennings from the women's wrestling team. Jennings had an 18-8 record this past season. She recorded six falls, one tech fall, and four wins by decision. Jennings totaled 81.5 points to rank third on the WildCats. She placed fourth at NCAA Regionals in the 110-weight class.

Ahmed Diallo from the men's volleyball team was named the Male Athlete of the Year. Diallo had a career season for Randolph in every statistical category as he finished ninth in kills in the ODAC with 267. He led the 'Cats in blocks with 56 and service aces with 20. He was second on the WildCats in digs with 148. He finished second on the team in sets played with 98 and was one of two WildCats to play in all 30 matches. He was twice named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week. Diallo was named to the ODAC Second Team and was also selected as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar Athlete. 

Rainie Ricard from the STUNT team was selected as the Women's Rookie of the Year. Ricard was a starter all season playing in 157 rounds and earning 67 points to help the WildCats become ranked #2 in the Northeast Conference.

The Male Rookie of the Year was Aksel Tinnes-Rimehaug from the men's tennis team.  In his first season with Randolph, Tinnes-Rimehaug had an overall singles record of 13-7 and a 6-2 mark in ODAC play. He has also been an effective doubles player as he is 15-8 overall playing with partner Jason Duval. On Tuesday in the ODAC quarterfinals, Tinnes-Rimehaug had the clinching win at fourth singles to send Randolph into the ODAC semifinals.

The Scholar-Athlete of the Year was given to Alana Ballowe from the women's soccer team. Ballowe, a Sport and Exercise Studies major, had the highest GPA of all graduating senior athletes.

Mireya Norville from the women's lacrosse team was given the Emily Ryals Sportsmanship Award. Amy Rigg received the Reynolds Cup which is given to the women's tennis player that shows outstanding sportsmanship. Mikayla Padgett was chosen as the recipient of the Deacon Award for her help with Athletic Training.

Steve Willis, the Special Assistant to the President and Secretary of the Board of Trustees, was named the Spectator of the Year and Deborah Mays, the Athletic Department Administrative Assistant, earned the Cushman Cup.
