Spuchesi Leads Record-Breaking Performances at Yellow Jacket Invite

Katelyn Spuchesi Breaks 500 Free Record and aids in 800 Free Relay Record.

HAMPTON, Va. - The Randolph College women's swimming team wrapped up a three-day competition at the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jacket Invitational on Sunday evening at the Hampton Aquaplex.

The WildCats finished with 105 team points to place seventh overall.

Individual Highlights
  • Katelyn Spuchesi qualified for the 500 Free finals, swimming a 5:29.92 to break the school record in the prelims. She then dropped another second in the finals to break the school record again in 5:28.46. Spuchesi earned a top-20 finish in the 400 IM, finishing 16th in 5:01.43.
  • Taylor Eshelman swam into the 50 Free finals and finished with a time of 25.62. She qualified for the 100 breaststroke finishing with a finals time of 1:16.39. Eshelman was a finalist in the 100 free, clocking a time of 56.16.
  • Abigail Ward clocked a 1:10.75 and Rio Bucy clocked a 1:14.28 in the 100 back. Alaura Arringdale and Maddie Dyl made it to the finals of the 200 breaststroke, with Arringdale swimming a time of 2:48.16 and Dyl coming at 3:09.89.

Relay Highlights
  • The 200 Free Relay team of Ward, Eshelman, Bucy, and Spuchesi earned an 11th-place finish in 1:46.40
  • During the same event, the relay team of Arringdale, Katya Zaitsev, Katie Scifres, and Dyl finished in 14th with a time of 2:00.35.
  • The 400 Medley team of Ward, Arringdale, Kaitlyn Heckman, and Zaitsev finished 13th in a time of 4:44.44.
  • The team of Bucy, Dyl, Scifres, and Zaitsev in the 200 Medley finished with a time of 2:15.51 for 13th-place.
  • A top-10 finish for the 800 Free Relay team of Spuchesi, Eshelman, Heckman, and Bucy earned them ninth-place and a new school record in 8:36.24.
  • The 400 free relay team of Spuchesi, Eshelman, Heckman, and Bucy finished 11th overall in a time of 3:57.23. In the same event, Ward, Scifres, Zaitsev, and Arringdale finished 13th in 4:15.15.

The WildCats will return to the pool in the new year on Jan. 17 for Senior Day in the Bateman Aquatic Center at noon.
