ASHLAND, Va. – The No. 8 seed Randolph College volleyball team fell to host and No. 1 seed Randolph-Macon College, 3-0 (13-25-9-25, 11-25), in the quarterfinal round of the 2018 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament on Wednesday night in Crenshaw Gym.
Despite a close 5-4 score in the opening set, the YellowJackets pulled ahead with an 11-5 advantage before increasing their lead to 16-8. The WildCats fought hard to chip away the point gap but Randolph-Macon would eventually take the set, 25-13.
The YellowJackets dominated the second set from start to finish, running away with an 11-3 margin before extending their lead all the way to 19-8. Rebecca Lesnak (Blountville, Tenn./Sullivan Central) would land the WildCats' final point of the match before the YellowJackets pushed a 6-0 run for the final 25-9 tally.
Although Randolph would be the first to land on the scoreboard in the third set, Randolph-Macon pushed an offensive assault to grab a commanding 17-5 lead. Despite the WildCats' best efforts to chip away at the YellowJackets' margin, they could only cut the deficit to 24-11 before Randolph-Macon landed the final point to clinch the 3-0 match victory.
Mackenzie Ambrose (Floyd, Va./Floyd County) paced the WildCats with six kills while Autumn Troxell (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) chipped in five kills and Lesnak added three. Kennedy Webb (Nassawadox, Va./Northampton) led defensively with 12 digs while Troxell recorded six. Brooks Gillerlain (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) finished the night with 10 assists.
The WildCats conclude the 2018 season with a 12-19 overall record and an 4-8 ODAC record.
