LYNCHBURG, Va.Autumn Troxell (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) became the second WildCat in school history to hit the 1,000th career kill mark as the senior outside hitter helped the Randolph College volleyball team defeat Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Emory & Henry College, 3-0, (25-18, 25-18, 25-17) on Wednesday night.

Troxell delivered 11 kills for the WildCats, amassing 1,001 career kills to sit second in the history books.

Randolph held the lead from the start of the opening set, holding a slight 5-4 edge over the Wasps before pushing a 6-1 rally to extend its advantage to 11-5. After a brief timeout, the Wasps erased the deficit with a 9-3 push to jump out to a 15-14 edge. The teams traded points before Randolph made its move on back-to-back kills by Mackenzie Ambrose (Floyd, Va./Floyd County) to grab an 18-16 edge. The WildCats extended its margin to 21-17, forcing the Wasps into a timeout, but it would not be enough as Randolph secured the 25-18 set win on a 4-0 run capped off on a kill by Taja Hunley (Dalzell, S.C./Thomas Sumter Academy).

Although Emory & Henry grabbed a slim 7-6 lead in the second set, they were soon plagued by attack errors, which allowed the WildCats to jump ahead, 11-7. The Wasps only trailed Randolph by two points but the WildCats managed to extend its lead all the way to 23-16. Emory & Henry would only trim the deficit to 23-18 before kills by Troxell and Rebecca Lesnak (Blountville, Tenn./Sullivan Central) cemented the set win for Randolph.

The WildCats capitalized on several Emory & Henry attack errors in the third set to take a 6-3 lead, but the Wasps were quick to erase the deficit off a 6-2 run to jump ahead, 9-8, and send Randolph into a timeout. Coming out of the break, the Wasps maintained a slight edge over the WildCats but soon relinquished the lead as Randolph pushed a 6-0 run to grab a 15-10 advantage. Randolph held the lead throughout the rest of the set, eventually securing the final 25-17 tally on a kill by Troxell.

In addition to her 11 kills, Troxell also led the WildCats with 15 digs. Lesnak chipped in nine kills in the win while Ambrose collected eight and Hunley tallied four. Kennedy Webb (Nassawadox, Va./Northampton) recorded 13 digs for the defense while Brooks Gillerlain (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) and Taylor Webb (Nassawadox, Va./Northampton) concluded the match with 20 assists and 11 assists, respectively.

The WildCats improve to 8-15, 3-5 ODAC and are back in action on Saturday when they travel to conference rival Eastern Mennonite University for a quad match. Randolph faces Bridgewater College at 11 a.m. before taking on the host Royals at 2 p.m.
