Four School Records Fall at WildCat Invitational

Chaffins competes in the high jump

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's track and field team broke four school records as the WildCats hosted their annual WildCat Invitational on Saturday. 

Meghan Chaffins (Temperanceville, Va./Holly Grove Christian) set two school standards in the long jump and high jump. The sophomore turned in a mark of 4.95m in the long jump, defeating her previous school record length of 4.79 set at the Blue and Silver Challenge, before securing a height of 1.52m in the high jump to best her old school record of 1.43m and finish second in the field.

Alexis VanWinkle cleared a height of 3.13m in the pole vault to finish fourth overall, defeating her previous height of 3.07m set at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Invite, while Liz Beairsto (Bowie, Md./Bowie) secured her name in the school record books with a time of 5:15.63 in the 1500 meter run. 

Jordan Sheets (Lewisville, N.C./Ronald W. Reagan) placed third in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:02.09 before turning in the fastest-time for Randolph in the 200 meter dash, crossing the line in 27.75 seconds. Jalil Penn (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) was the lone competitor for Randolph in the 100 meter dash, clocking in at 13.44 seconds. 

Also competing in the running events for the WildCats was Michaela Saunders (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) and Leo Galopin (Rye, N.Y./Ethel Brook) who finished the 800 meter run in 3:08.12 and 3:23.71, respectively, while Erin Schriever (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) turned in a time of 25:02.11 in the 5,000 meter run.

Teliya Stevenson (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) posted the best Randolph finishes in several throwing events. The senior turned in a mark of 37.53m in the hammer throw before tossing a distance of 10.05m in the shot put and earning a mark of 31.70m in the discus event. Rounding out the throwing events, Marlene Redlich had the highest Randolph finish in the javelin, placing sixth with a mark of 23.37m.

Randolph will host the 2019 Outdoor Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship next weekend. Competition will take place Friday-Saturday, April 19-20 at WildCat Stadium.
