Ashley Schmitz Named ODAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

FOREST, Va. – Junior Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) from the Randolph College women's tennis team was tabbed as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Tennis Player of Week. 

Schmitz won at both singles and doubles to help the WildCats to a 2-0 week, extending their winning streak to eight.

In the 5-4 victory over Roanoke College on Thursday, April 4, Schmitz paired up with teammate Keyu Jin at No. 1 doubles to defeat their counterparts, 8-5. The junior moved on to deliver a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles. 

Schmitz repeated her success in the 5-4 comeback bid over Virginia Wesleyan University on Sunday where she and Jin took the lone doubles win with a score of 8-4 before clinching a 7-5, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 singles. 

On the season, Schmitz has primarily played in the No. 2 spot where she has fashioned an 11-2 singles record while going 7-1 at No. 1 doubles with Jin. 

Schmitz and the rest of the WildCats will appear in their final home match of the season tomorrow at 3 p.m. when they host the University of Lynchburg at the Randolph Tennis Courts.
