LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's tennis team pulled out a hard fought 5-4 win over visiting Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon at the Randolph Tennis Courts.
The tandem of Hayley Ashford (Providence Forge, Va./New Kent) and Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) earned the lone doubles win for Randolph, defeating their counterparts in the No. 3 match, 8-7, securing the win with a 7-3 tie breaker.
In singles action, Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 Middle School) secured a 7-6, 6-2 victory at No. 1 while Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) earned an easy 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot. Savana Mata (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos) dropped her No. 3 match, 6-1, 6-4 while Opoku-Sarfo fell 6-0, 6-2. Kristyn Underwood (Afton, Va./Nelson County) pulled out a big win for the WildCats at the No. 5 spot, taking down her opponent, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 while Jordon Kirkpatrick (Lutz, Fla./Sunlake) earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the No. 6 match.
The WildCats improve to 5-5, 3-1 ODAC and are back in action on Saturday, March 23 when they travel to Emory & Henry College for a 1 p.m. match-up.
