FREDERICKSBURG, Va.- The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced the 2018 Women's Tennis College All-State Teams on Monday. Randolph women's tennis was represented by Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 Middle School) and Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) both being selected to the Second Team in singles play.
This is the second All-State selection for both Jin and Schmitz. Jin earned Second Team honors in doubles last year while Schmitz garnered Second Team accolades in singles.
Jin played the whole season at No. 1 for the WildCats in 2018. She posted a 14-6 overall record and was 12-4 in dual matches. Her 8-3 record in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play earned her Second Team Honors. Jin was named the ODAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week on April 9 in winning matches against Roanoke and Virginia Wesleyan. Among her season highlights was a 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 win over Centre's Abigail Kent who ended the season ranked #22 in the latest Oracle/ITA Atlantic South Region rankings.
After starting in the No. 3 spot in the fall, Schmitz moved up to No. 2 in the spring and went 11-2 on the season, fashioning a 17-4 overall singles record and had a 9-2 record in ODAC play. She ended the season winning her last 11 matches. Schmitz was named the ODAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week on March 26 for her 3-0 week at singles and doubles play as she dropped no more than four games across three singles matches. At the conclusion of the season, Schmitz was named to the ODAC Second Team in singles.
