Women’s Tennis Closes Out Fall Season with 8-1 Win Over Catholic

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Randolph women's tennis team swept doubles play and won five single flights to defeat Catholic University, 8-1, in its final fall match on Saturday afternoon.

The sophomore tandem of Keyu Jin (Kunming China/No. 8 Middle School) and Aubrey Hawn (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) took flight one doubles, 8-3, while Lauren Appel (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Samantha Dickerson (Brookneal, Va./William Campbell) won flight two doubles, 8-3. Karli Winston (Altavista, Va./Altavista) and Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brook Point) capped off the sweep with an 8-5 win in flight three.

In singles action, Jin won flight one, 6-1, 6-1, while Hawk won flight two, 6-3, 6-1. Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) defeated her opponent, 6-4, 6-4 in flight three with Appel taking flight four singles, 6-0, 6-2, while Sarfo won flight six, 6-3, 6-3.

Randolph concludes its fall season, 2-0, and will be back on the court when it hosts Ferrum College on Saturday, Feb. 17.
