Three WildCats Earn All-State Tennis Nods

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – On Friday, the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) released the 2017 Women's Tennis College Division All-State Teams.  For the first time since 2013, the Randolph College women's tennis team had a player honored.  Also, for the first time since the inception of the All-State teams, the WildCats placed multiple honorees on the team, as first-years Ashley Schmitz, Keyu Jin, and Aubrey Hawn were all selected.

Schmitz was the lone 'Cat selected for her work in singles action.  She earned a Second-Team All-State nod to add to her Second-Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) honor in May.  Schmitz earned the selection after being outstanding at the number four spot.  She won all but one of her contests in dual-match play with the exception of one.  That came against a player who would end up being first-team all-conference at the number three spot.  Schmitz finished with 14 wins at number four and ended the year with a 13-match win streak.

Jin and Hawn were honored on the All-State Second-Team for their work at number one doubles.  The pair was dominant at number one throughout their first campaign as a duo, which ended with them being named First-Team All-ODAC.  Jin and Hawn played 17 matches together, and lost only one of them, which featured one of the best players in the country.  The number-one duo ended the year on a 15-match win streak, which included two big wins in the ODAC tournament.

The WildCats concluded the season with the most wins in conference and overall, secured the highest seed in the ODAC tournament, and reached the ODAC semifinals for the first time, in a record-setting season.
