'Cats Send Sweet out with Sweep

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's tennis team honored its lone senior before playing its final regular-season home match of the year.  The WildCats honored Jenna Sweet with a 9-0 win over Guilford College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest on Saturday.

The 'Cats came out and dominated the entire match.  The three doubles matches ended in less than 40 minutes.  Keyu Jin and Aubrey Hawn faced the most resistance at number one, but were still able to win 8-2.  Kristen Hamilton and Samantha Dickerson were excellent at number three, giving up only a single game on the way to the win.  Sweet teamed with Ashley Schmitz, and the two continued to shine.  The two swept their opponents.

The WildCats continued their control in singles.  Jin had a battle in the first, but was able to pull out a 7-5 win.  She showed great endurance in the second, winning it without giving up a game.  The other five singles matches all featured similar score lines.  The visitors were only able to get three games out of those 10 sets.  Hawn gave up only one in each set, but still managed a quick victory.  Lauren Appel dropped a single game in the first, but came back and swept her opponent at number five.  Sweet, Schmitz, and Dickerson all earned 6-0, 6-0 victories on Saturday, sealing the 9-0 victory.

The win ties the program record for most ODAC wins in a season.  It also gives the team a chance to tie the single-season win total next weekend.  Randolph (11-3 overall, 8-2 ODAC) will head on the road next Saturday.  The WildCats will close out the season at Shenandoah University (3-9, 1-7) at 1 p.m.
