WildCats Sweep Hollins

ROANOKE, VA – The Randolph College women's tennis team played its first match since spring break on Friday, taking on Hollins University.  The WildCats took down the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival, 9-0, in a match that was finished in less than two hours.

The 'Cats used the same doubles teams that started to see action in Hilton Head and it gave the team a great start.  The only team that has not changed all spring is Keyu Jin and Aubrey Hawn.  The two continued their success at number one, winning a quick, 8-0 match.  Lauren Appel and Samantha Dickerson teamed up at number three and the two gave up only two games, winning 8-2.  In number two, Jenna Sweet and Ashley Schmitz teamed up and made a clean sweep.  The win moved Sweet into a tie for first in the history of the program in doubles victories.

With the team leading 3-0 after three quick matches, Randolph came out and made short work of singles.  In the six matches, only three games were given up to Hollins, with those coming in one, four, and five.  Jin, Hawn, Sweet, and Schmitz were victorious in the top four spots.  Dickerson moved up to number five for the match with HU, and she made short work of her opponent in her first action at five on the year.  Kristen Hamilton moved into the sixth spot for the first time in a dual match.  She earned her first dual win, sweeping her opponent.

Randolph (4-2 overall, 1-1 ODAC) will return home for its next match.  The WildCats will get no rest, as the team will take on Bridgewater College (2-4, 2-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
