EMORY, Va.- Powered by four first half goals, the Randolph women's soccer team picked up a big 5-2 win over Emory and Henry on Sunday afternoon at Fred Selfie Stadium. The WildCats, winners of three in a row, improve to 8-5 overall and 3-5 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Wasps drop to 1-14-1 and 1-7 in the conference.
Sara Bane (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) tallied two goals in the first half to give her 11 on the season. Randolph led 4-0 at halftime.
The WildCats scored their third goal of the game in an unconventional way. A Wasp defender deflected a shot that went into the net for an own goal to give Randolph a 3-0 lead.
An Emory and Henry foul inside of the penalty box in the 36th minute granted the WildCats a penalty kick. Hannah Overstreet (Bedford, Va./Liberty) took the shot and banked it into the back of the net to lift the WildCats to a 4-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, Bane nearly netted a hat trick but saw her shot deflect off the left side of the goal post. The Wasps fought their way back into the contest with goals in the 61st and 63rd minute by Gilliam Hogg to cut the 'Cat lead to 4-2.
The Wildcats tallied their fifth goal of the day in the 81st minute. Makenzie Collins (Roanoke, Va./Lord Botetourt) hit a shot from the right side that was deflected back into the play by E&H goalie Kieran Liseki and Sam Hablas (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) was there to put the rebound in for the goal to give Randolph the 5-2 lead.
Shelby Lutz (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) got the start in goal and saved a season-best five shots. Liseki stopped 15 shots for the Wasps.
Randolph led 24-13 in total shots. 20 of the WildCats shots came on frame which represented a season high. Corner kicks were in Emory and Henry's favor 5-1.
The WildCats travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to play Eastern Mennonite. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
