LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team officially opened its 2018 season on Saturday afternoon against Agnes Scott on a warm and humid day at WildCat Stadium. The WildCats got out to a 2-0 lead in the first half on their way to a 4-1 victory.
Randolph wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Sam Hablas (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) redirected a shot by Sara Bane (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) just over two minutes into the frame and in the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Less than 20 seconds later, Bane would score on her own to put the home team ahead 2-0.
The Scotties kept the 'Cats at bay for the rest of the first half. Agnes Scott would get on the board early in the second half on a goal by Skye Svehlak.
Bane struck again for the WildCats in the 54th minute to increase the Randolph lead to 3-1. Later in the 75th minute, Alaina Gembach (Lebanon, Va./Abingdon) hit a high shot from over 20 yards out that went over the keeper's head and in for the score.
Zoe Waring (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) got her first collegiate start between the pipes for Randolph. She allowed one goal and also picked up a save in just over 80 minutes of game time. Shelby Lutz (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) took over late in the second half and tallied a save.
Randolph led in total shots 14-4. Both teams had two corner kicks each.
The WildCats are back at home this Wednesday when they host Piedmont International. Game time is at 5:30 p.m.
