High-Scoring Contest Goes Guilford’s Way, 3-2

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team hosted Guilford in an ODAC game on Wednesday evening at WildCats Stadium. A total of four goals were scored in the first half but the Quakers' only score in the second half was the difference-maker as Guilford won 3-2.

The loss drops Randolph to 2-9-1 overall and 0-5 in the conference. Guilford moves to 5-6-1 and 2-3-1 in the league.

The 'Cats were looking to break their four-match scoreless streak and saw that end early in the first half. Hunter Robinson (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River/Slidell) had possession on the far right and snuck a shot past the left post and in to give Randolph the 1-0 lead.

Guilford tied it up in the 30th minute as Kate Glenn scored on a Kelsey Reillly pass off a free kick. The Quakers struck again at 31:38 when Morgan Henderson took a deep shot from the left side of the box and into the back of the net to move Guilford ahead 2-1.

The WIldCats fought back just before halftime. Patricia Garrett (Appomattox, Va./Appomattox County) fired a shot from the top of the box that glanced off Quaker goalkeeper Cheyenne Grim's glove and in to tie it up at 2-all.

The second half was a total reversal as only one goal was scored and that occurred in the 54th minute. Lauren Culler was able to score off a free kick to make it 3-2.

The Guilford defense locked up as it held Randolph to just three total shots in the period. The only one to come on goal came at 69:01on a Robinson shot. The WIldCats were granted three straight corner kicks in the final three and a half minutes but could not get a shot on the net.

Stephanie Quirk (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) got the start in goal and stopped five shots. Grim got the nod for the Quakers and did not have a save. Morgan Malikowski came in the second half and had one save.

Shots were in Guilford's favor 13-7 with eight coming on frame. The WildCats led in corner kicks 5-4.

Randolph travels to Roanoke on Saturday to play Hollins. Game time will be at 2:00 p.m.
