LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team hosted Emory and Henry in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener for both schools on Saturday afternoon. The Wasps tallied the winning goal in the second half as they defeated the WildCats 2-1.
The two teams battled back and forth in the first half with neither registering a shot. The first shot of the game resulted in a goal as E&H's Kelci Horner scored off an assist from Christina Ameen in the 26th minute to put the Wasps up 1-0.
The 'Cats had consecutive corner kicks in the 43rd minute. At 42:58, Talia Tomlin (Madison Heights, Va./Liberty Christian) assisted on Hunter Robinson's (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River/Slidell (LA)) goal to knot the contest at 1-1.
Much like the first half, the second saw both teams limited in shots. In the 74th minute, E&H was granted a corner kick. Ashley Love scored off a helper from Lauren Fleming past WildCat goalie Stephanie Quick (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) to give the Wasps the eventual game-winning goal.
The game was a defensive battle as there were a total of six shots with both teams tallying three each. Corner kicks were in Emory and Henry's favor 5-2.
Quick had one save for Randolph. Kayla Wright also had a save for the Wasps.
The WildCats travel to Ashland on Wednesday night to play Randolph-Macon. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
