FERRUM, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team played its final regular season game on Wednesday at Ferrum. The Panthers won by the final score of 17-6.
The game was scoreless through almost five minutes of play. The Panthers struck first at 25:09 on a goal by Micaela Harvey. Ferrum tallied three more scores to go ahead 4-0 with 16:12 remaining in the period.
The WildCats would cut their deficit in half to 4-2 on goals by Dana Cavallo (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) and Tyrah Cobb-Davis (Laurel, Md./St Vincent Palotti). The Panthers would go on another 4-0 run to expand their lead to 8-2 and went ahead 9-3 at halftime.
Ferrum outscored Randolph 8-3 in the second half. The 'Cats closed to within six goals, 10-4, with 22:08 remaining to play.
Four seniors scored for the WildCats in last contests. Cavallo paced Randolph with two goals. Nicole Dorton (Alexandria, Va./J.E.B. Stuart), Hannah Bradley (Wye Mills, Md./Saints Peter and Paul), and Cobb Davis all scored once. The WildCats' other goal came from Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) who also had an assist. Perry won six draw controls on the evening.
The WildCats won the groundball battle 16-15. Chrissy Shackleford (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) picked up five groundballs to lead the team. She also stopped 14 shots between the pipes. She finishes with 193 saves for the season, which represents a career high.
