Women’s Lax Surges Past Salem 15-5

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team hosted Salem on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference tilt at WildCat Stadium. The WildCats used a second half run to pull away from the Spirits and win by the score of 15-5.

The victory improves Randolph's record to 2-3 overall. Salem falls to 1-8.

The WildCats took a 3-0 early in the first half on a goal by Hannah Bradley (Wye Mills, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) and a pair of scores from Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Rocky Mount). The Spirits closed the game to one with back-to-back tallies as it was a 3-2 contest with 17:47 showing on the clock. It was 4-3 WildCats at 13:21 when Randolph rattled off four straight goals to end the first half ahead 8-3.

In the second half, the WildCats were a man down but still managed to score as Dana Cavallo (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) assisted Teagan Stanley (Lusby, Md./Homeschool) to give Randolph a 9-3 advantage. The Spirits countered with a score to make it 9-4 but the WildCats were too much in the end as they would go on to outscore Salem 6-1 the rest of the way to run away with the win.

Perry scored five times on the afternoon and assisted on two other goals. Bradley put up three tallies and one helper. Libby Exline (Sykesville, Md./La Plata) scored twice and dished out two assists. Nicole Dorton (Alexandria, Va./J.E.B. Stuart) put up two goals and one assist. Cavallo had a goal and a pair of assists. Stanley scored once and assisted on another. Tyrah Cobb-Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) chipped in one goal.

Chrissy Shackleford (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) had five saves in net. Stanley and Maddie Peters (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) both caused three turnovers. Jenn Weigle (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) forced two turnovers. Bradley scooped up four groundballs and won four draw controls.

Randolph begins Old Dominion Conference play on Tuesday as it travels to Lexington to take on #3 Washington and Lee. Game time will be at 4:30 p.m.
