LYNCHBURG, Va.- The conditions were less than ideal as the Randolph women's lacrosse team opened its 2019 season on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon. The WildCats played a tough and physical game with Brevard with the Tornadoes scoring twice late in the second half for a 6-4 win.

Brevard won the opening draw control and scored 51 seconds into the first half to go ahead 1-0. The score remained that way for over nine minutes of game time until Hannah Bradley (Wye Mills, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) assisted Nicole Dorton (Alexandria, Va./J.E.B. Stuart) to tie it up 1-1. The Tornados would get a pair of free position goals to lead 3-1 at the half.

In the second half, Bradley netted a solo shot at 26:18 to get the WildCats to within one at 3-2. Brevard answered with a score by Micaiah Vacchiano to restore its two-goal advantage, 4-2, with 25:44 showing on the clock.

Bradley nearly had her second goal of the day at 18:48 but the shot attempt glanced off the goal post. With a yellow card given to Vacchiano at 16:17, the WildCats found themselves in a man-up situation. Bradley dished to Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County), who found the back of the net to make it 4-3. Less than a minute later, Dorton evened the score at 4-4 with her second goal of the afternoon.

Brevard scored at 11:06 and 10:08 to go ahead 6-4. Randolph had five shots in the final 8:08, including a free position attempt with 4:04 remaining, but could not get the score it needed in the end.

The Tornados led in total shots 24-23 and in ground balls 17-16. A total of seven cards were handed out with the WildCats receiving four (all yellow) and the Tornados three (two yellows and one green).

Dorton finished with two goals on four shots and picked up two groundballs. Bradley had a three-point afternoon with a goal and two assists. Maddie Peters (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) scooped up three groundballs and caused two turnovers. Chrissy Shackelford (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) stopped 12 shots in goal.

Randolph heads on the road next Friday to Maryland to play Goucher. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
