LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team opened its 2018 season at home on Sunday afternoon against West Virginia Wesleyan. The Bobcats won by the score of 23-8.
In her first game as a WildCat, Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) scored five times to lead Randolph and also added an assist. Hannah Bradley (Wye Mills, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) scored three goals.
Perry gave the 'Cats its first and only lead of the game less than two minutes into the first half. A free-position opportunity was granted to the WildCats and Perry was able to convert to put Randolph on top 1-0.
West Virginia Wesleyan would go on to score five straight times to go ahead 5-1 at 21:40. The 'Cats got one back as Perry again converted a free position shot to make it 5-2. The Bobcats outscored the WildCats 9-2 the rest of the frame to lead 14-4 at halftime.
The Bobcats added onto their advantage in the second half. Perry and Bradley scored back-to-back unassisted goals late in the period to complete the scoring for Randolph.
Chrissy Shackleford (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) picked up six ground balls in goal. Perry and Maddie Peters (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) both added two each. Peters caused two turnovers. Perry won six draw controls and was 3-for-3 on free position shots.
Randolph is idle until March 3 when it travels to Danville to play Averett. Game time is at 1:00 p.m.
