Women's Lacrosse Ties Program Record in Opening Day Rout
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph matched a program record set last year, putting home 22 goals in a 22-8 victory against Columbia (S.C.).
Randolph (1-0) was powered by six goals apiece by junior Taylor Klevenz (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) and senior Melanie Eisele (Kennett Square, Pa./Sanford School), both falling one short of the program record in the category.
Klevenz added four assists, also one shy of the program record, but matched a team record with 10 points.
First-years Chelsea Marciniak (Centreville, Md./Sts. Peter and Paul) and Megan Graham (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) and seniors Ashley Edwards (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) and Nushaa Kaz (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) each struck twice for Randolph.
Randolph had assists on half its goals, led by Klevenz's four. The 11 assists is a team program record.
First-year Leah Hughes (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) had a goal and three assists, sophomore Taylor Riccardi (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge Co.) had a goal and a pair of helpers, and first-year Addie Moore (Fairfield,Va./Rockbridge County) had an assist.
Riccardi had five draw controls in addition to her game-high five ground balls. Klevenz had four ground balls and a game-high six draw wins.
Junior Samantha Fagone (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore) made seven saves in net.
The WildCats jumped ahead 4-0 in less than four minutes, which was the start of a quick-scoring game.
The team scored twice in under a minute seven different times in the contest.
Kendra Blackstock was impressive in defeat, scoring five goals for the Fighting Koalas (0-3).
"We are very excited about pulling off the win tonight," head coach Alexis Wagner said. "My team has been working hard in preseason and it is nice to see their work pay off."
The WildCats next host Washington & Lee in an early ODAC game, this Wednesday.
