Kalyn Banks dodges two defenders

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's basketball team closed out the 2018-19 season on Saturday afternoon on its home court as the WildCats fell to visiting Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Virginia Wesleyan University, 67-53.

After a closely contested first quarter, the Marlins managed to edge out the WildCats, 15-12, but Randolph leveled the score to 15-all off a three-point play in the beginning of the second period to kick off a back-and-forth battle between the teams, which saw several lead changes and ties before Virginia Wesleyan once again took a slight lead, 32-30, at halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Marlins outscored the WildCats, 23-10, to hold a 55-40 advantage but saw their margin diminish slightly due to several fouls in the fourth quarter, allowing Randolph to close the deficit. Despite outscoring Virginia Wesleyan, 13-12, in the final period the Marlins would ultimately seal the final 67-53 tally as time expired.

Kalyn Banks (Clinton, Md./From the Heart Christian School) paced Randolph with 17 points,  shooting 7-of-14 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line, to go along with 13 rebounds. Mikayla Sink (Lexington, N.C./Central Davidson) added nine points in the loss while Elizabeth Ellen (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) shot 4-of-4 from the field to chip in eight points. Yanessa Cabrera (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) pulled down five rebounds, dished out five assists and recorded two steals.

The WildCats concluded the 2018-19 season, 5-20 overall and 3-15 ODAC.
