LYNCHBURG, Va.- Visiting Randolph-Macon used a 21-5 first quarter lead to get on top of Randolph and never looked back as the Yellowjackets defeated the WildCats 82-53 on Saturday afternoon at the RAD Center. RMC improves to 13-7 overall and 8-5 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while the WildCats fall to 4-14 overall and 2-9 in the ODAC.
Randolph had a 1-0 lead after Yanessa Cabrera (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) made the second of two free throws 30 seconds into the opening quarter. The Jackets tallied a layup to go ahead 2-1 and Kalyn Banks (Clinton, Md./From the Heart Christian School) then answered for Randolph with a layup as the WildCats went ahead 3-2 at 8:20. That was the last basket for the WIldCats in the frame as Randolph-Macon went on its big run to end the quarter.
The WildCats finally ended its scoring drought with 8:16 remaining in the second quarter on a Banks layup. RMC would outscore Randolph 23-15 in the stanza to lead 44-20 at halftime.
The third quarter scoring was a little tighter as the Yellowjackets led 17-16. Mikayla Sink (Lexington, N.C./Central Davidson) 10 of her 12 points in that period.
Randolph had its best shooting performance in the fourth quarter as it was 6-of-13 (46.2%) from the field. Cabrera, Banks, and Sara Bane (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) all had four points apiece.
Sink led the WildCats with 12 points. DJ Jackson and Banks both added 10 points with Banks tacking on eight rebounds. Bane finished with a season-high eight points. Elizabeth Ellen (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) grabbed seven rebounds.
Randolph goes on the road to Hollins on Monday. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
