LYNCHBURG, Va. – Taylor Samuels (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and Sarah Wright (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) scored double-digit points as the Randolph College women's basketball team fell, 80-50, to host and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Washington and Lee University on Tuesday evening.
The Generals set the tone for the night as they secured a dominant 22-7 lead at the completion of the first quarter before extending the margin to 42-18 heading into halftime. Randolph started to find momentum in the third period and began to slowly gain ground on the Generals in the final quarter, with Washington and Lee outscoring the WildCats by a slim 16-15 margin. However, it would not be enough as the Generals took home the final 80-50 tally as time expired.
Samuels recorded 11 points for the WildCats, to go along with four assists, while Wright concluded the night with 10 points and added four rebounds and two steals. Jade Jarvis (Sugar Grove, Va./Rural Retreat), Kalyn Banks (Clinton, Md./From The Heart Christian School) and Breyanna Rice (Wake Forest, N.C./Heritage) also added four rebounds apiece in the loss.
The WildCats fall to 4-15, 1-10 ODAC and will return home to host Hollins University in an ODAC match up on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 4:30 p.m. in the RAD Center. The contest will also serve as the team's Autism Awareness game.
