Softball Splits Doubleheader at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Randolph softball traveled to Greensboro for an early week doubleheader with the Pride. GC took the first game 12-4 in five innings while the WildCats claimed the second game 3-0.

In the second game, Lindsey Chaney (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) went the distance as she limited the Pride to four hits while striking out five. She had a no-hitter through 3 2/3 innings.

The game was scoreless through six innings and went to a seventh. In the top half of the inning, Alyssa Swords (Disputanta, Va./Prince George) led off with a single and Nadia Tibbs (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) reached on a fielder's choice while Swords was safe at second base on an error by the Greensboro shortstop. Taylor Craft (Altavista, Va./Altavista) grounded out but Madison Brown's (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) groundout was able to moved Tibbs and Sword up to second and third. Rachel Lee (Clifton, Va./Centreville) singled to right field and reached second on error which allowed Swords to score and Tibbs to land on third. Delaney Nuckols (Rockville, Va./Patrick Henry) singled to center to score Tibbs and Lee to give the 'Cats a 3-0 lead.

In the Greensboro seventh, Chaney got Daisy Martin to ground out. Jordan Deacon singled and moved to second on an Allyson Loy two-out single. With the tying run at the plate, Chaney induced a game-ending ground out to secure the victory for Randolph.

Nuckols finished 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Briana Harbison (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) was 1-for-4 with a double.

In the opener, the WildCats fell behind 6-0 after the first two innings and then 12-0 after four. The WildCats scored four times but were unable to close the gap as the mercy rule ended the game after five innings.

Abbi Pannill (Prince George, Va./Prince George) got the start and went three innings. She gave up six earned runs and walked four while striking out one. Danielle Shannon (Greensville, Va./Riverheads) went one inning and surrendered six runs on three hits and walked four while striking out two.

At the plate, Swords was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs batted in, and one run scored. Lee, Tibbs, and Craft were all 1-for-2.

Randolph hosts Southern Virginia tomorrow afternoon at the Randolph Softball Complex. The first game of the doubleheader starts at 1:00 p.m. with the second game beginning around 3:00 p.m.
