2019 ODAC Softball Preseason Poll

SALEM, Va.- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2019 softball preseason poll on Wednesday afternoon. Randolph was picked 10th with 23 points, one spot ahead of Shenandoah, and four points behind Bridgewater.

Defending conference and two-time National Champion Virginia Wesleyan was once again chosen to repeat with a total of 10 first place votes and 100 points. Randolph-Macon was slotted in second place with one first place vote and 90 points.

The WildCats were 14-23 overall and 7-11 last year in ODAC play as the 'Cats qualified for the postseason tournament as the seventh seed. Key returners for Randolph include senior pitcher Lindsey Chaney (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) and senior outfielder Courtney Lucado (Buchanan, Va./James River). Chaney had a career season last year with 105 strikeouts and strikeouts per inning with 6.62 to rank fifth in the ODAC. Lucado had a team-high 90 at-bats in 35 games. Her 22 hits led the WildCats and she tied for second in runs scored with 14.

"We have a young group plus some key upperclassmen who have been great leaders this year," said third-year head coach Sara Flinn. "This team works hard and they push each other to be better every day. They are fun to be around and bring joy to the field. This should be an exciting season and I look forward to watching them battle it out in the upcoming months."

Randolph begins its 2019 season at Salem on February 16. ODAC play starts March 16 as the WildCats travel to Virginia Beach to take on the Marlins.
