CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The Randolph Equestrian team competed in its final regular season IHSA show on Saturday at the University of Virginia. The WildCats were the Reserve Champion on the day and in the process clinched their third regional championship in a row. Randolph is the first program since Hollins in the mid-2000s to win at least three regional championships in a row.
Michelle Smith (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) claimed the Intermediate Flat. Kirby Tidmore (Nashville, Tenn.) was third in the Open Flat and second in Open Fences. She was the Reserve High Point Rider and finished out the season as the IHSA Zone 4 Region 2 Cacchione Cup Rider.
There were several third place rides for the WildCats. Sidney Clark (St. Augustine, Fla./Smithson Valley) picked up the yellow ribbon in Walk Trot Canter as did Taylor Price in Novice Flat and Molly McLaughlin (Owings, Md./Northern) in Intermediate Jumps. McLaughlin's performance sealed the regional title for Randolph. Price also added a fourth place result in Novice Flat.
The WildCats will have six riders competing in seven divisions tomorrow at the Zone 4 Region 2 Championships at UVA. They are:
