Hoke and Davis Win Zone Titles; WildCats Finish Third

LAURINBURG, NC – For the first time since 1999, the Randolph College equestrian team sent a full squad to the Zone 4 Championships, which were hosted by St. Andrews University.  Along with the team competing for the title, six individuals took part in order to qualify for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championship.  Morgan Hoke and Madeline Davis were able to do that, while the team just missed out on a bid, finishing third.

Hoke led off the day competing in both the individual and team Open flat competitions.  She was outstanding in the individual portion, and won the blue ribbon for the Zone 4 Championship.  She had a great ride in the team portion, and left the ring with a yellow ribbon.

Intermediate flat was up next, with two separate WildCats taking to the saddle.  Eliza Gretok rode in the individual portion after taking home a red last weekend.  However, she was given a very difficult horse.  She rode well but did not ribbon.  Davis began what would be a busy day in the team portion.  Davis rode well, and earned a white ribbon.

Gretok also rode in the team portion, riding in Open fences.  She navigated the course very well and left the ring with a yellow ribbon.

Intermediate fences were up next, and Randolph had different riders for the individual and teams classes.  Kirby Tidmore rode very well as an individual.  However, she just missed out on a berth to Nationals, as she finished third.  Davis was back in for the team portion.  She was terrific and earned a red ribbon.

Caroline Houston was the team rider for both of the Novice sections.  She had a stellar ride in the flat, but was only given the pink ribbon.  She then rode in the fences section, and left the ring with the red ribbon.  However, she was bested by her teammate in the individual section.

Davis finished up her day in the individual Novice fences class.  She navigated the course perfectly and left with her first Zone title.

Michelle Smith and Rebecca Jones were up next, riding in the individual sections of Walk/Trot/Canter and Walk/Trot respectively.  Both were superb in the ring.  However, both just missed out on bids to nationals, as they finished third.

Raynah Roberts and Abby Carpenter rounded out the team portion of the show, competing in W/T/C and Walk/Trot.  Roberts was flawless and won the blue in her section.  Carpenter picked up a yellow after controlling her horse very well.

The WildCats as a team will see their great season end.  Goucher College won Zone 4, and Emory & Henry College were Reserve Champions.  With the Zone titles, Hoke and Davis will move on to compete at the IHSA National Championship.  The show will take place during the first week of May.
