WildCats Head to Regionals this Weekend
LYNCHBURG, VA – After winning the overall Zone 4 Region 2 team title in February, members of the Randolph College equestrian team will head to the individual Regional Championships on Sunday. The University of Virginia and the Barracks Farm will host the event.
Throughout the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) season, riders accumulate points through their placing in shows. If a rider earns enough points throughout the season, they qualify for regionals in that event. A rider can qualify in two events, with one being a flat and the other being in fences. Finally, if a rider finishes in the top-two at regionals, that rider will move onto the zone championships.
This year, WildCats qualified in nine different disciplines. Rebecca Jones will be riding in Walk/Trot, while Michelle Smith will take to the saddle in Walk/Trot/Canter. Jaime Fordham will ride in the Novice flat, Kirby Tidmore will ride in Intermediate fences, and Morgan Hoke will compete in Open flat.
Two WildCats have qualified for two events. Madeline Davis will join Fordham in the Novice flat, while also competing in Novice fences. Eliza Gretok will compete with Tidmore in the Intermediate fences, while also looking to earn a ribbon in the flat of the same class.
Along with the individual riders looking to be honored, the Zone 4 Region 2 Championship Ribbon will be given to the team at the event. With that, no matter what, WildCats will advance to the Zone 4 Championships.
