VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Randolph men's cross country team collected 294 points to place 11th out of 11 teams at the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon.
Alex Clem (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) clocked in the fastest Randolph time, covering the eight-kilometer course in 28:59.79 with teammate Jermayne Waller (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) following behind in a time of 29:16.30.
Caleb Schmitzer (Wilson, N.C./Fikes) was the third Randolph harrier to cross the finish line, locking down a time of 30:02.45 while Cody Carpenter (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) finished fourth for the WildCats in 31:25.70. Rounding out the Randolph field was Kenny Kinton (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) who crossed the line in 33:55.70.
Washington and Lee University took top team honors with 27 points while Bridgewater College earned the runner-up position with 48 points. Lynchburg College rounded out the top-three with 85 points.
Jamie Hiegel of Bridgewater won the race in 24:35.40, which earned him All-ODAC First Team honors and the title of Men's Runner of the Meet. Hunter Frizzell of Lynchburg was named Rookie of the Meet while W&L's Hank Patrick took home Men's ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete award.
