Clem Finishes in Top 10 at Maroon Invite
SALEM, VA – For the third-straight week, the Randolph College men's cross country team competed at a tough, hilly course. This time the WildCats ran at Mowles Spring Park as part of the Maroon Invitational, where Alex Clem showed he is a force to reckon with.
Clem finished the 8K race in 29:41.30, which was good for ninth-overall. He defeated a Division II runner with a late kick by six seconds. He was also within 30 seconds of the top finisher, a runner from the host, Roanoke College.
Tory Myrick was the next 'Cat to stop the clock. He completed the course in a time of 35:11.10, which was his best-career collegiate time in an 8K. John Coffron and Andrew Harman were the final two members of the team to complete the race. Both posted bests over their time from the previous week. Coffron finished in a time 38:21.90, while Harman stopped the clock at 38:44.90. The two beat several runners from Averett and Ferrum.
The WildCats did not score due to a late injury scratch from a fifth runner. However, had a fifth runner competed, Randolph would have defeated both Averett and Ferrum.
The 'Cats continue their difficult season next weekend. The team will compete in its most difficult course. It will be the Virginia 4-Miler, which is run on the road and features large elevation changes. The race begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
