SALEM, Va. - The Randolph College men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their 2017-18 season on Friday afternoon at the Bast-Cregger Invitational hosted by Roanoke College.
The day consisted of mostly field events, which included pole vault and high jump, as well as distance events such as the 4,000 distance medley relay and the 5,000 meter run.
On the men's side, senior Gavin Cook (Severn, Md./Old Mill) and junior Karim Frazier (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) competed in the pole vault with Cook posting a mark of 3.50m, good enough for ninth place while Frazier tied for 10th-place with a mark of 3.35m. In the high jump, junior Philemon Afrifa-Boakye (Accra, Ghana/Mfanisipim finished sixth with a height of 1.83m, just .08m shy of his personal best, while sophomore Devin Doss (Galax, Va./Galax) tied for 14th-place with a height of 1.73m.
For the women's team, freshman Meghan Chaffins (Temperanceville, Va./Holly Grove Christian) was the lone Randolph competitor in the high jump, setting a program standard of 1.43m which tied for 13th-place in the overall field.
The WildCats will return to tomorrow for the second day of competition at the Bast-Cregger Invitational. Start time is set for 11 a.m.
