WildCats Prep for ODACs at Home Meet
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College men's track and field team competed in its final meet before the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Outdoor Championships. The team hosted the WildCat Invitational for the second year, and once again, there were many impressive feats.
The top mark on the day came in the 800-meter race. Matthieu Meyer ran well and had a blistering first lap. He continued into the second and finished with a new personal and school record. The 1:59.31 gave him third overall.
Anthony Quinn set himself up well for the ODAC Championship next week. He won the 110-meter hurdle in a time of 15.01. It could have been faster, but the hurdlers ran into a headwind. He also led off the 4x100-meter relay team that finished second. Tory Myrick, Quordel Carter, and Karim Frazier rounded out the squad that finished in a time of 45.10. Frazier was especially impressive, catching the SVU runner at the line.
Quinn and Frazier had a great battle later in the meet in the 200-meter dash. Quinn set a new PR with a time of 22.66, as he claimed the top spot. Frazier was close behind for most of the race, but came up at the end. However, he still crossed the line with a time of 23.04 for fifth.
The team started well in two field events at the beginning of the day. Philemon Afrifa-Boakye took second in the long jump, with a distance of 20'2.25". He was bested only by a national qualifier. Frazier also earned a silver, with his coming in the pole vault. He cleared 12'8" for the mark.
Alex Clem competed in the 1,500-meter race and ran a solid 4:29.40 to prepare for next week. Also, Gavin Cook and Devon Davis cleared solid heights in the pole vault and high jump respectively, gaining confidence for next week's meet.
The WildCats will be back in action next weekend, competing in the two-day ODAC Outdoor Championships. Washington and Lee University will host the meet, which begins on Friday at 3 p.m.
