LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) decision to the University of Lynchburg on Thursday afternoon.
Karson Healy (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) clinched the lone victory for Randolph at No. 2 singles. The first-year easily won his first set but was pushed to a tie-breaker where he ultimately secured the win, 6-1, 7-6 (10-7).
Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) fought a tough No. 1 singles battle but fell, 7-5, 6-1 while Brandon Braud (Moseley, Va./Cosby) dropped the No. 3 match, 6-4, 6-2. In the rest of the singles matches, Andrew Webb and Jose Merhej (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) both fell, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively while John Coffron (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 6.
The WildCats put up a solid fight in doubles play as the tandem of Braud and Healy fell, 8-4, at No. 1 while the duo of Kulvivat and Webb dropped at No. 2, 8-2. The Hornets completed the sweep as Coffron and Merhej fell in the No. 3 spot, 8-1.
Randolph drops to 0-15, 9-0 ODAC and is back in action on Saturday, April 13 when the WildCats travel to Randolph-Macon College for a 1 p.m. match-up.
