'Cats Close Out Regular Season with Win over Hornets
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College men's tennis team ended its regular season on Saturday, taking down Shenandoah University 5-0 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match. The contest was originally scheduled to be played in Winchester, but was moved to the Crosswhite Athletic Club due to a lack of indoor facility for the northernmost school in the ODAC. It was played to decision, as court time was limited.
The 'Cats made sure it was a quick match, starting off strong in doubles action. Bradley Strober and Doug Corbett came out at number one and played strong. The two gave up only three games on the way to winning the match. JT von Seggern and Kyle Unruh teamed again at number two and had some tough early competition. However, the seniors won 8-4. Trevor Johnson and Tuan Tran had no trouble at number three. The WildCats won 8-0 in a sweep.
The last four spots in singles, played by Johnson, Corbett, Tran, and Unruh all went unfinished, as the match had already ended. Unruh was tied very early, while the other three were all in the lead. Johnson had already won a set.
However, none of those matches needed to finish as Strober and von Seggern took care of business at one and two. Both controlled the play throughout. Strober swept the first, before giving up only two games on his way to the win. Von Seggern gave up two games in the first, before giving up only one in the second, as the two players sealed the win.
Randolph (10-5 overall, 6-4 ODAC) will play its next match on Tuesday, May 2. It will come on the road in the ODAC Quarterfinals. The opponent, time, and seeding will be determined after the rest of the ODAC completes the schedules.
