Randolph Falls on Senior Day

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College men's tennis team played a pivotal Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match against Guilford College on Saturday.  Prior to the Quakers 7-2 victory, the WildCats honored their five seniors: Doug Corbett, Trevor Johnson, Tuan Tran, Kyle Unruh, and JT von Seggern.

Doubles action began the match that has a chance to be repeated in the first round of the ODAC tournament.  Corbett and Bradley Strober played a tough pair at number one, and despite playing tough, dropped the match.  Johnson and Tran teamed up at three and took five games, but were not able to earn the victory.  Von Seggern and Unruh partnered at number two and had their hands full.  It was tough for both sides to earn breaks, as the serving was tremendous.  However, the 'Cats bested their opponents with an 8-5 win.

Singles came up next, and Johnson made sure to leave his home court with a win.  After winning the first set, he came out and dominated the second, winning 6-1.  Von Seggern had another battle at the two spot.  After dropping the first set, he came back strong and won the second.  With plenty of sunlight, a traditional third set was played.  It went back and forth throughout, but the Quaker was able to escape, 7-5.  Corbett played a tough opponent at number four and fell in the first set.  He came back strong and forced a tiebreak.  However, he dropped it by two points.

Strober, Tran, and Unruh played well at one, five, and six respectively.  However, all three WildCats fell, giving Guilford the win.

Randolph (8-5 overall, 4-4 ODAC) will hit the road for its final matches.  The first will come on Wednesday at Hampden-Sydney College (7-5, 2-3) at 3 p.m.
