WildCats Drop Spring Break Finale

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The Randolph College men's tennis team closed out the spring break matches on Tuesday, playing against the University of Mount Union.  The Purple Raiders won the match 8-1.

The WildCats continued with the same doubles pairings that they have used all semester.  Unfortunately, only one team pulled out a victory against the team from Ohio.  Doug Corbett and Bradley Strober played well at number one, winning four games.  However, they fell.  Tuan Tran and Trevor Johnson suffered the same fate at number three despite playing well.  JT von Seggern and Kyle Unruh continued their strong season at number two.  The two took down their opponents in a very close battle, winning 8-5.

Tran had one of the closest matches of the afternoon at number five singles.  He went back and forth in the first set, forcing a tiebreak.  However, he dropped it.  Tran rebounded in the second, giving up only a single game on the way to a super-tiebreak.  However, he could not pull that out, falling in his match.

Von Seggern nearly pulled off a victory in number two.  He dropped the first set after taking three games.  The two players traded games in the second, but von Seggern fell 7-5.  Strober, Johnson, and Corbett all faced stiff competition at one, three, and four respectively, and dropped the matches.  Joe Kaneda took to the court at number six, and won two games in the first set.  He came out in the second and pushed his opponent, nearly forcing a super-tiebreak.  However, he fell after 10 games.

Randolph (4-2 overall) will return home for its next two matches.  However, the next one will not be for 11 days, as the team hosts Bridgewater College on Saturday, March 18.  The match will begin at 1 p.m.
